We enjoyed our third open day on Sunday. We were blessed again with the weather as it had rained very heavily on Saturday but we woke on Sunday to the first proper frost of the year and blue skies. Much nicer for a walk around the cattle in the sunshine than driving rain!
We had probably a smaller turnout but the main and most important thing was that everyone who came were genuinely interested in Lowlines, finding out more and seeing the cattle in the flesh as none of them had seen the cattle up to then.
So we started off with teas, coffees and a few biscuits before a short introduction from Nick. He explained how we had come to have Lowlines, a little about the breed history and the benefits of the breed. We then moved off to view the herd. First the in calf heifers, surrogates and calves and some young bulls before a short walk to see all the cows and calves and Stock bull Conker who was his usual obliging self and stood for a scratch in the field. It really does show the amazing temperament when you can walk up to a mature bull in the field and have hands on. We then had a quick look at the yearling bulls and bullocks before returning for more refreshments and chance for people to ask any questions.
